Twelve Examples

Size, prominence in a community or landscape, functional importance and appearance can all make a bridge memorable. How well the bridge reflects a community’s culture, history and aspirations, how well a bridge communicates how it works, how well its shape, proportions, details and color please us, determine its quality as a work of art. The Twelve Examples on this page do all of those things very well.

If one of the bridges below catches your eye, click on the photo to learn more about it.

These bridges have been selected as outstanding examples of contemporary North American bridge design and of Bridge Art. They have all become landmarks in their communities. Over time the content of this page will be rotated. Mr. Gottemoeller participated in the design of many but not all of these examples.
